The C-47 Skytrain™ developed from the Douglas DC-3™, which was designed for commercial passenger service in the early 1930’s. Entering service in 1935, the DC-3 was quickly adapted for military service and designated as the C-47 Skytrain. World War II saw high demand for the reliable C-47, with over 10,000 produced. The C-47’s played a key role on D-Day, dropping over 50,000 paratroopers during the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord, June of 1944. Avro Lancaster 460 SQN RAAF (1:150) "G for George" is an Avro Lancaster Mk I bomber, squadron code AR-G and serial number W4783, operated by No.460 Squadron RAAF during World War II. It is now on permanent display at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Australia. "George" flew almost 90 combat missions over occupied Europe with No.460 Squadron, and its second most prolific surviving Lancaster, behind "S for Sugar" of No. 467 Squadron RAAF (137 operations). Most operational Lancaster's were shot down before they had reached 20 operations. Upon its retirement from combat duty in 1944, "George was flown to Australia by an all-RAAF crew of Bomber Command veterans. The bomber played a major part in raising War Bonds during a round-Australia publicity trip. The Concorde is a turbojet-powered supersonic passenger aircraft, which was jointly developed by Britain’s British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) and France’s Aérospatiale under an Anglo-French treaty in early 1960’s. With its first commercial flight taking place in 1976, it remained in service for 27 years. Only 20 Concordes were ever produced, with only 14 flying commercially, 7 by British Airways and 7 by Air France. It also flew higher than other commercial airliners, flying at altitudes of about 50 to 55 thousand feet.
