Modern Israeli Tanks and Infantry Carriers 1985-2004 (New Vanguard)
Modern Israeli Tanks and Infantry Carriers 1985-2004 (New
Over the last two decades, the Israel Defence Force (IDF) has introduced a variety of new AFVs. Old models such as the M48 and M60 have been improved beyond recognition, in the form of the Magach 7. The performance of Israel's indigenous Merkava tank has been similarly enhanced with new variants and the new Merkava 4 MBT has recently entered service. Israeli infantry have also received machines such as the Achzarit assault carrier, the Puma combat engineer vehicle and the Nagmachon and Nakpadon (tank-based carriers intended for low intensity conflicts). This book examines the design, modification and combat history of these formidable fighting machines.

Armoured Warfare in the Arab-Israeli Conflicts (Images of War)
Armoured Warfare in the Arab-Israeli Conflicts (Images of
The latest volume in Anthony Tucker-Jones’s series of books on armored warfare in the Images of War series is a graphic account of the development of armored forces in the Arab and Israeli armies from 1948 to the present day. In a sequence of over 200 archive photographs he tells the story of the role armor played in Arab-Israeli conflicts over the last sixty years, from the initial battles of 1948, through the Suez Crisis, the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War, the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and the Israeli attack on Hamas in Gaza in 2008.In all these clashes armored vehicles played a prominent, sometimes decisive part. As the photographs show, an extraordinary range of Second World War and post-war tanks, armored cars and armored personnel carriers was deployed by all sides. Russian T-34s, SU-100s, T-54/55s, T-62s and T-72s were imported from the Eastern Bloc by the Egyptians and Syrians. Shermans, Pattons, Centurions and AMX-13s were imported from the West by the Israelis. In addition, the Israelis developed modified hybrids such as the Sherman/Isherman, the Sho’t, Magach and Sabra, and they produced to their own design their main battle tank, the Merkava. Anthony Tucker-Jones’s photographic survey is an excellent introduction to late-twentieth-century armored war...

Takom 1/35 Israeli Main Battle Tank Merkava Mk.1 Hybrid 2079
Takom 1/35 Israeli Main Battle Tank Merkava Mk.1
Takom 1/35 Israeli Main Battle Tank Merkava Mk.1 Hybrid 2079 Named after the ancient Hebrew war chariot, Israel's Merkava tank was forged by experience on the battlefield as well as the painful political realities facing the Jewish state. After enthusiastically providing the UK with valuable data gathered during 2 years of intense evaluation of the Chieftain tank, The Israelis were denied the weapon after political objections by wealthy Arab states resulted in the British cancellation of their agreement in 1969. This sudden turn of events instigated the ultimate decision in Israel to rely on themselves and produce a local tank. Drawing on experience gained operating U.S. & British tanks in heavy combat, the Merkava was designed after the Yom Kippur war of 1973, and after several prototypes were tested and improved, the new tank went into production in 1977. Design features included a troop compartment in the rear accessed by a unique split hatch reminiscent of APC's, a 908 Hp Teledyne Continental AVDS 1790-6A diesel engine mounted in the front of the hull for increased crew protection from the front, and a flat, arrow-shaped turret housing a powerful license-produced fully-stabilized version of the US rifled 105-mm M68 tank gun. The Merkava Mk.1 saw combat in Lebanon in 1982, a...

Team Yankee: Oil War: Israel: Merkava Tank Platoon
Contains five plastic Merkava 1 or 2 Tanks, one tank commander sprue, one decal sheet and six unit cards. After the 1967 war, the purchase of modern military equipment became more difficult and the Israeli government decided to design, develop, and build an indigenous main battle tank. The design prioritised armour, armament and mobility in that order, with the key characteristic of the new tank being its armour and crew protection.
