American Educational 9 Piece Scale of Hardness Collection without Diamond
American Educational 9 Piece Scale of Hardness Collection
The American Educational 2357 hardness scale collection is used for geological study, and has nine specimens ordered according to Mohs hardness scale, from softest (talc) to hardest (diamond, not included). The collection is number coded and includes a key sheet for identification. The 2357 has a compartmented tray for display and storage, with specimens that measure approximately 1 x 1-1/2 inches (L x W). (L is the horizontal distance from left to right; W is the horizontal distance from front to back.) Specimens in this collection may vary, based on availability at the time the product is packaged. The collection is suitable for grades 6 to 12 and ages 11 to 18.Science education products incorporate applied math and science principles into classroom and homeschool-based projects. Teachers in pre-K, elementary, and secondary classrooms use science education kits and products alongside science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum to demonstrate STEM concepts and real-world applications through hands-on activities. Mohs' Hardness Test Kit for Industrial Applications
Mohs' Hardness Test Kit for Industrial
This tool is used in industry to determine the Hardness of a material according to Mohs' scale. The kit contains 8 different Mohs' Hardness Points, from Mohs 2 through Mohs 9. These points are used in a 'scratch test' on the material. For example, if the number 6 point scratches a particular material, but the number 5 point does not, then your material has a Mohs' Hardness value of about 5.5. A common use of this tool is in Concrete Hardness Testing to guide the technician in selecting the optimal abrasive to use in the concrete polishing. Other examples of industrial use of this Mohs' Hardness Test Kit - on touch screens, faucet finishes, and countertop materials. This kit comes packaged in a rugged molded Plastic Case with permanent Instructions, along with a Mohs' Hardness Table of common natural and man-made materials.

Mohs Scale of Hardness w/ Diamond Rock Mineral
Mohs Scale of Hardness w/ Diamond Rock
Quantity: 1 - Scale of Hardness Rock Set with Diamond This is the traditional Mohs Scale with a small raw diamond included. There are ten number coded specimens measuring approximately 1 x 1 1/2 inches (except the diamond, don't you wish!). The determination of the hardness of a mineral can be an important step toward its identification. Hardness is the resistance which the smooth surface of a mineral offers to being scratched. A diamond is the hardest of all substances and can only be scratched by another diamond. Over a century ago, Friedrich Mohs by experimentation made up a scale of hardness which is referred to as Moh's scale. It does not imply an exact hardness, but is set up so that any mineral can scratch all those beneath it in the scale, or can be scratched by those above it in the scale. Since a diamond is the hardest it is given the number 10; talc is the softest so it is given number 1. Quartz is often used as a division in the scale and all those above 7 are called hard minerals. Here are the samples included in the set and their number on the scale of hardness: 1 Talc 6 Feldspar 2 Gypsum 7 Quartz 3 Calcite 8 Beryl 4 Fluorite 9 Corundum 5 Apatite 10 Diamond Some very familiar objects can be used in conjunction with this scale. Mohs Hardness Scale - Rock and Mineral Collection and ID Chart - 9 Real Specimens
Mohs Hardness Scale - Rock and Mineral Collection
Includes 9 genuine rocks/minerals/gemstones that are one through nine on the Mohs Hardness Scale. The Mohs scale of mineral hardness characterizes the scratch resistance of various minerals through the ability of a harder material to scratch a softer material. It was created in 1812 by the German geologist and mineralogist Friedrich Mohs and is one of several definitions of hardness in materials science.

SciEd Mohs Hardness Scale
SciEd Mohs Hardness
Moh's Hardness Scale was developed nearly 200 years ago by Friedrich Mohs and is used to classify minerals by hardness on a scale of 1 to 10. With the materials included, your students will have everything they need to determine and study the hardness of minerals. Featured are card-mounted mineral specimens representing hardness for scales 1 through 9 that can be used as reference when testing unknown samples. Also included are additional activities that allow your class to test for other key mineral properties.

Deluxe Mohs' Hardness Pick Set for Mineral Identification, Wooden Case
Deluxe Mohs' Hardness Pick Set for Mineral Identification,
Hardness is an important and quantifiable physical characteristic of a mineral and in your effort to identify an unknown mineral, the hardness, if known, combined with other properties, can narrow your search to just a handful of possibilities. Simply scratch a smooth surface of your unknown mineral with the picks of various indicated hardness. As an example, if a No. 5 pick scratches the mineral, but a No. 4 pick does not, then your mineral hardness is 4.5. Then compare this against a table of minerals listing hardness values to aid in identifying the unknown mineral. The Deluxe Hardness Pick Set from Mineralab is unique in that, unlike other mineral hardness test tool that use minerals or crystal points, Mineralab picks are made of metals and alloys of hardness values equal to 2 through 9 on Mohs hardness scale. Because the picks are made of metal, they are easily ground to sharp points which will not break off and which can be easily sharpened. Included in the Mineralab's Deluxe Hardness Pick Set: * Four double-ended picks with eight points comprising 2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7, 8 and 9 on Mohs' hardness scale. * High quality brass pinch vises. * A glass plate (hardness of about 5.5) which, when scratched, quickly distinguishes hard from soft minerals. * A second hardness plate...

Hach 145300 Total Hardness Test Kit, Model 5-B
Hach 145300 Total Hardness Test Kit, Model
Water hardness is caused almost entirely by calcium and magnesium ions. Other di- and trizalent metals have a similar effect, but usually are not present in high enough concentration in potable waters to cause problems. Hardness increases soap consumption in laundries and causes scale in boilers. Hardness test kits include the inexpensive Models 5-B and 5-EP designed for those needing quick checks on the efficiency of water softeners. More sophisticated test kits allow the determination of total hardness as well as calcium and magnesium (by difference).
