Sip

A lyrical, apocalyptic debut novel about addiction, friendship, and the struggle for survival at the height of an epidemic. The sickness started with a single child and quickly spread: you could get high by drinking your own shadow. Artificial lights were destroyed so addicts could sip shadow at night in the pure moonlight. Gangs of shadow addicts chased down children on playgrounds, rounded up old ladies from retirement homes. Cities were destroyed and governments fell. And if your shadow was sipped entirely, you became one of them, had to drink the shadows of others or go mad.One hundred and fifty years later, what’s left of the world is divided between the highly regimented life of those inside dome cities who are protected from natural light (and natural shadows), and those forced to the dangerous, hardscrabble life in the wilds outside. In rural Texas, Mira, her shadow-addicted-friend Murk, and an ex-domer named Bale search for a possible mythological cure to the shadow sickness—but they must find it, it is said, before the return of Halley’s Comet, which is only days away.

SIP Handbook: Services, Technologies, and Security of Session Initiation Protocol

SIP Handbook: Services, Technologies, and Security of Session

Widely adopted by service providers to enable IP telephony, instant messaging, and other data services, SIP is the signaling protocol of choice for advanced multimedia communications signaling. Compiled by noted engineering experts Syed Ahson and Mohammad Ilyas, SIP Handbook: Services, Technologies, and Security of Session Initiation Protocol presents a thorough technical review of all aspects of SIP. It captures the current state of IP Multimedia Subsystem technology and provides a unique source of comprehensive reference material on this subject. SIP Applications for Today and Tomorrow   The scope of this volume ranges from basic concepts to future perspectives. Divided into three sections, the book begins with a discussion of SIP in peer-to-peer networks and then goes on to examine advanced media integration, migration considerations, mobility management, and group conferencing, while also reviewing home networking and compliance issues. The middle section of the book focuses on the underlying technologies of SIP. Chapters review network architecture, vertical handoffs, NAT traversals, multipoint extensions, and other areas at the forefront of research. Finally, the text examines various security vulnerabilities and provides perspectives on secure intelligent SIP services wi...

SIP Trunking

SIP

The first complete guide to planning, evaluating, and implementing high-value SIP trunking solutions   Most large enterprises have switched to IP telephony, and service provider backbone networks have largely converted to VoIP transport. But there’s a key missing link: most businesses still connect to their service providers via old-fashioned, inflexible TDM trunks. Now, three Cisco® experts show how to use Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking to eliminate legacy interconnects and gain the full benefits of end-to-end VoIP.   Written for enterprise decision-makers, network architects, consultants, and service providers, this book demystifies SIP trunking technology and trends and brings unprecedented clarity to the transition from TDM to SIP interconnects.  The authors separate the true benefits of SIP trunking from the myths and help you systematically evaluate and compare service provider offerings. You will find detailed cost analyses, including guidance on identifying realistic, achievable savings.   SIP Trunking also introduces essential techniques for optimizing network design and security, introduces proven best practices for implementation, and shows how to apply them through a start-to-finish case study.   Christina Hattingh, member of the technical staff ...

Adding Session and Transaction Management to Web Services by Using SIP: Using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to Manage Web Services (SOAP and XML) Sessions and Transactions

Adding Session and Transaction Management to Web Services

In recent years, Web services have been drawing more attention to the computer industry. They are built on open standards and provide solutions for integrating applications across enterprises. The technologies behind Web services are Universal Description, Discovery and Integration, Web Services Description Language and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). SOAP, which is responsible for delivering messages between applications, is a connectionless protocol. In other words, SOAP cannot keep the session state between SOAP calls. However, most Ecommerce applications need to maintain the session state and transaction information between Web services. This paper proposes and develops a new mechanism that supports Web services session management by using Session Initiation Protocol which is an IETF standard session control protocol. In addition, based on this session management mechanism, a simple transaction management solution for Web services is proposed. Two systems are implemented as demonstrations for both mechanisms in this paper. Moreover, more functions can be added in these systems, such as security, service registry and discovery.

Voice Vox: Mobile Call Establishment using Session Initialization Protocol (SIP) with out any Payment to GSM Network

Voice Vox: Mobile Call Establishment using Session Initialization

Voice over IP (VoIP) technology is currently finding its place in the telecommunication market. It enables a telecommunication company to cut cost by allowing a single network to transmit both data and voice traffic. Voice Vox is the complete implementation of VOIP client and also describe how to build telecommunication applications using different layers of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model. The book in your hand will lead you in details how you can develop a system based on all OSI layers. These layers are application, presentation, session, transport, network, data link and physical. In Voice Vox, the reader will find how to design the packets at different layers in order to effectively communicate with each other. At the application layer, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is used for establishing sessions between two parties using Asterisk as a telephone private branch exchange (PBX) server. At the session layer, the user can implement Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) and Session Description Protocol (SDP) for real-time data transmission between two call parties. At the transport layer, the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) is used for the transmission of audio data.
